SimCity Mac Release Plagued By Launch Issues

The newly released Mac version of SimCity is suffering from many launch issues, according to player reports.

When the Mac edition of the game  released on August 29, the forums were flooded within hours with complaints from users unable to play the game. The complaints and issues stopping the game from running varied from gamers not being able to launch the game in any other language than English, to not being able to install it thanks to Origin thinking the game was already installed.

EA has released a SimCity Mac FAQ, which does give a list of fixes for many of these problems, but it does seem as if some remain unresolved. One rather large problem which still remains, is that players who are using OSX 10.7.4 can’t play the game, despite Origin claiming the game requires 10.7.x minimum.

EA has issued an official response on this, saying – “SimCity requires 10.7.5 minimum (or 10.8.4 if you have a HD3000 graphics chip set) and we are working to update the min spec requirements text on Origin to reflect this requirement.”

However, it is also being claimed that people using OSX 10.9 can’t play the game either, to which EA has said – “We are investigating reports that OSX 10.9 (Developer Revision 5 and 6) is incompatible with Origin and SimCity.”

SimCity can’t seem to catch a break, as it seems while these issues don’t quite match up  to the catastrophic PC launch, it does not exactly bode well for this game’s future on the Mac platform.
