It’s been over five years since Ubisoft announced the much hoped for Sands of Time remake at the Ubisoft Forward in 2020, and after disappearing into a concerning silence for years a release date has finally been leaked online.
The last we head of the SoT remake was back in February 2021, when it was indefinitely delayed. Apparently, according to information revealed later in 2022, the development was rebooted and handed over to Ubisoft Montreal – the devs of the original Sands of Time.
But moving on to now, the well known leaker Tom Henderson spoke regarding this on the recent episode of the Insider Gaming podcast. Tom has been very accurate in the past, but as with any leak or rumor a pinch of salt ™ is definitely required. But according to his information, we can expect the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake to have a January 2026 release date.
Unfortunately Tom was unable to speculate or give any info on just when Ubisoft will officially unveil the release date for the game, but did say that Ubisoft has internal plans to market it for a single month before release which means that it has to be soon. A reveal at The Game Awards on December 11th feels likely, but it could also drop at any time on Ubisoft’s Youtube channel. But in my opinoin, a TGA release would make more sense due to the hype and the large audience watching TGA live or in attendance at the event.
While Ubisoft’s reputation has taken a well deserved and self inflicted beating as of late, I still have some hope for the Sands of Time remake now that it’s in the hands of the original developer. The original is one of the best games on the PS2, but it wasn’t without it’s share of problems – mostly in the simple and repetitive combat. But it’s safe to say that the pressure is on to nail this, especially after the slew of successful and (mostly) well executed remakes from Capcom (exclusive RE3R, of course) and Konami / Bloober Team.
