According to a very interesting report from Bloomberg, Nintendo are going to increase the production of the highly successful Nintendo Switch 2 as they are seemingly expecting record breaking sales.
Specifically, according to Bloomberg, Nintendo have asked their suppliers to product up to 25 million Switch 2 units by the end of March 2026. As you probably know, the Switch 2 has been selling like hotcakes since its release, with the console selling 3.5m units within just four days. Plus, we also saw it becoming the fastest selling the fastest selling console in the USA – finally dethroning the PS4 after all these years.
Initially, analysts predicted that the Switch 2 would sell 17.6 million consoles in the fiscal year ending March 2026, but further according to Bloomberg’s sources we can expect them to reach as high as 20 million units by March 2026. But it seems, if Bloomberg’s report is accurate, that Nintendo are leaving themselves a fair amount of wiggle room in case the sales of the console exceed even that. Of course, the last thing they would want to see is a lack of availability during the Christmas period – especially as there is finally a mainline Pokemon game out on the console (although not exclusive).
Nintendo’s initial prediction for the sales figures of the Switch 2 was fairly in line with what we saw with the original Switch – which sold 14.87m units within the first year, but despite the criticisms of the console’s cost and the cost of the games themselves, Nintendo will break this record without even breaking a sweat. This is despite the fairly weak exclusives available at launch (in my opinion of course) but Nintendo’s fanbase have a lot of faith in them to provide a strong and varied library of games, and that trust has definitely been earned after a stellar library on the original Switch console.
