Well, if you’re thinking of upgrading your graphics card this side of Christmas, things just got a bit more complicated. Nvidia’s rumored RTX 50 series refresh, the Super series of cards allegedly won’t see a release date until Q1-Q2 2026 according to a new report, and right now all AIB’s are focusing their attentions on the current lineup.
For those who don’t know, Nvidia’s RTX 50 Super series largely sees identical specifications to the ‘vanilla’ cards, with the primary differentiator coming down to the VRAM capacity on the board. EG, the RTX 5080 Super is rumored to kick things up from 16GB to 24GB. There have been a number of release dates touted online, but ultimately Nvidia haven’t confirmed anything yet.
Recently Benchlife claims their sources (via Google Translate) states the following: “The GeForce RTX 50 Super series graphics cards, originally expected to debut in January, will most likely launch in the first or second quarter of 2026, most likely between March and May, rather than the previously rumored CES 2026; Computex 2026 will take place from June 2 to 5, 2026.”
This release date is interesting, because Nvidia’s RTX 60 was largely rumored to launch late 2026 or early 2027, but of course we’ll have to wait and see what happens there.
Below you can see that SeaSonic are now actually listing the RTX 50 Super series of cards in their PSU calculator, or… well kind of. The RTX 5080 Super is nowhere to be found, with only the RTX 5070 Super and RTX 5070 Ti Super popping up.
Truthfully this doesn’t mean a whole lot, given that it’s so early and it’s not like this if official confirmation. At this stage we’re most likely going to see a slightly higher power demand for the new parts due to the denser memory modules and potentially a few other tweaks such as higher clock frequencies – but given the chips are still the same ones in the Super series, I’d not hold your breath for significant upgrades on that front.
Below is a table I plonked together to go over the basics of the specifications, as a reminder these specs were first leaked by Kopite7Kimi earlier this year, so full credit to him for the info. So far I’ve managed to confirm they’re accurate – or at least were planned; that said Nvidia are infamous in changing things around so as always until it’s official nothing is official.
SKU Name | SM Count | Memory Bus | RAM Config |
---|---|---|---|
RTX 5070 | 48 | 192 Bit | 12GB GDDR7 |
RTX 5070 Super | 50 | 192 Bit | 18GB GDDR7 |
RTX 5070 Ti | 70 | 256 Bit | 16GB GDDR7 |
RTX 5070 Ti Super | 70 | 256 Bit | 24GB GDDR7 |
RTX 5080 | 84 | 256 Bit | 16GB GDDR7 |
RTX 5080 Super | 84 | 256 Bit | 24GB GDDR7 |
I’ll also add that I am skeptical AMD will release a more powerful version of its RDNA 4 lineup, I’ve asked around and so far none of my sources have provided any insight. They said that for sure, the RX 9000 series had more powerful Radeon GPUs originally intended – and I’ve spoken about those, but the more powerful variants were all scrapped and basically AMD is placing most of its focus on UDNA/RDNA 5 at this stage which should release (roughly) around the same time as Nvidia’s RTX 60 series.
